Barbara Lochbihler

Barbara Lochbihler has dedicated most of her professional life to promoting human rights. She is a member of the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances. From 2009 to 2019 Barbara was a member of the European Parliament, President and Vice-President of its sub-committee on human rights, and foreign affairs and human rights spokesperson of The Green/EFA group. The implementation of the EU’s human rights strategy was the main focus of her work as MEP, supplemented by the human rights implications of the EU’s migration policy. As a member of Parliamentarians for Global Action during that time, Barbara also focused on the issue of impunity. She was Secretary General of the German section of Amnesty International from 1999 to 2000. Prior to that, she served as Secretary General of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom in Geneva from 1992 to 1999. She holds a M.A. degree in Political Sciences, International Law and Economics.
