Patrick Chappatte

A renowned press cartoonist, Patrick Chappatte joined the Board of the Martin Ennals Foundation in January 2021. Born in 1967 in Pakistan to a Lebanese mother and a Swiss father, Patrick Chappatte grew up in Singapore, before moving to Geneva. He began his career at La Suisse before drawing for L’Hebdo, La Tribune de Genève and Die Weltwoche. In 1995, he worked first for the International Herald Tribune and then for the New York Times. He has received the prestigious Press Cartoon Prize from the Overseas Press Club of America in New York three times (2012, 2015 and 2018), making him the only Swiss to have received this distinction. He is currently the press cartoonist for the newspapers Le Temps, NZZ am Sonntag (Zurich), Der Spiegel magazine (Germany), and also contributes to Le Canard Enchaîné (France) and the Boston Globe (USA).
