Procedures & Guidelines
- Anybody can nominate any individual or organisation by filling
out the appropriate form. Please note that neither individuals
nor organisations may nominate themselves.
- Nominees must currently be involved in work for the promotion
and protection of human rights. Special account is taken of those
who have demonstrated an active record of combating human rights
violations by courageous and innovative means. The Award aims
to encourage individuals and organisations, in particular those
who are working for the rights of others in conditions hostile
to fundamental human rights and who are in need of protection.
- Nominations for next year's award should reach the Martin Ennals
Foundation (MEF) by 9th December. Receipt of
nominations will not be acknowledged.
- The selection of the winning candidate is made by the Jury of
the Martin Ennals Foundation. Following the selection, the announcement
of the laureate is made in May.
- Support material is welcome, however any documentation attached
to the nomination form should be copies as none will be returned.
- Should the candidate reach the final stage of the selection
procedure, the MEF may request further information and documentation
concerning candidates, and reserves the right to make the names
of the short-listed candidates public.
